The food combining diet was creating on the basis that some foods should not be combined as they can lead to weight gain and digestive upset. As an alternative, there are some foods which can be combined successfully that can lead to weight loss.
Food combining techniques have been discovered early in the twentieth century and have been further researched to determine the effectiveness of the measures which are taken through the process of food combination for weight loss.
The truth is that different foods are digested differently within the digestive system – therefore, avoiding eating certain foods together can mean the difference in weight loss. Foods that are high in starch require an alkaline digestive system compared to protein based foods which require acid to ensure the adequate digestion occurs. Eating these foods together can create digestive insufficiencies as the digestive processes are occurring in tandem with one another and yet, are complete opposites. How can this create a digestive system that can work adequately?
When the food sits in the stomach and it is undigested, it can create a place for bacteria to grow. When we combine the wrong kinds of foods than it can lead to digestive discomfort and lead to the food being present in the stomach longer, remaining undigested.
There are multiple rules when it comes to food combining to ensure that the digestive system can exist in harmony. These rules are as follows:
• Acids and starches should not be combined. This can lead to an upset stomach and acid indigestion and constipation.
• Protein and fruit should not be combined within the same meal.
• Desserts should be avoided. These are often eaten at the end of the meal when food should not be consumed as the person who is eating is often full. Desserts often lead to overeating and excessive weight gain.
• Only one type of protein should be eaten at any given meal time.
• Do not combine fruits with starches. In fact, fruits should not be combined with other types of foods including starches and proteins. If you are going to eat fruits, be sure to eat these fruits alone.
• Do not combine proteins and carbohydrates within the same meal. Proteins will require a higher acid level in order to digest the food and therefore it is not a good idea to combine carbohydrates and proteins.
• There is one food that should be combined with no other. This food is melons. This includes watermelon, honeydew melon and cantaloupe. For some reason, these foods do not combine well with any other source of food.
Now that you know the rules of food combining, you can find a diet that can help you to become the best that you can be throughout the diet. Food combining is an essential way to maintain digestive health. It can also be a way to avoid future digestive problems as well as treat digestive problems that may already be present in the patient.
