Aside from kidney disease, a low protein diet may be necessary for those that are unable to digest these types of foods. Many times, people that are intolerable to high levels of protein within the body are often sensitive to high levels of salt.

Foods that should be avoided on the low protein diet include; meats and eggs which are highest in protein as well as yogurt, cheese and other dairy products like milk. Poultry and other lean meats contain high levels of protein and it is important to find alternatives and substitutes for these types of foods within the diet.

The foods that should be consumed on the low protein diet include: vegetables, which contain some of the lowest levels of proteins in the foods which are most commonly eaten. Breads, cereals and pastas also contain low amounts of protein and should be consumed regularly within the diet.

For breakfast, the perfect meal plan for a person that is following a low protein diet includes cereal grains combined with fresh fruits. This allows the dieter to have a balanced breakfast. Variety can be put into the diet by creating omelettes with egg whites and vegetables and even a small amount of cheese.

Lunch and dinner can provide a bit of a challenge when it comes to foods that are low in protein. Many of us have learned to associated proteins with these types of meals, in fact, every meal! Finding alternatives such as tofu and starches combined with small amounts of proteins can help to maintain a healthy and low level of protein within the body.

There are many benefits to eating large portions of fruit. Fruit is full of nutrients and vitamins that can be used within the body to create energy as fruit is filled with natural carbohydrates.

It is important to remember that protein can never be completely removed from the diet. Rather, protein is not stored within the cells and needs to be replenished. One of the benefits of the low protein diet is that the dieter can maintain the diet without over consuming protein and maintain the level of health required for the low protein diet.
