Weight loss diets will always thrive as successful businesses. This is because dieters frequently give up on them after spending huge amounts of money participating. Having the proper understanding of the dynamics of weight loss diets can increase your chances of success when you are trying to shed those pounds.

The reality of many weight loss diets is that you only lose a few pounds fast. For example, if you go on a low or no carbohydrate diet, you will lose in the neighborhood of 10 pounds in just a couple of weeks. Then, your body will begin to fear that you are starving it and switch to a mode to preserve the fat you have stored. This is when weight loss diets can be particularly frustrating because you continue to deprive yourself while seeing little or no change on the scale. By having the proper understanding of this fact, you can convince yourself to be patient a little longer and alter your diet so that your body is not in panic mode.

Understand the biological resistance to weight loss diets. Weight loss diets do not always inform of the differences between carbohydrates. You need carbohydrates for proper brain function and metabolism. However there are good and bad carbohydrates. Weight loss diets do not include simple carbohydrates which are found in white rice, white bread, sugary desserts, and beverages sweetened with heavy sugary syrup. The good carbohydrates are known as complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates break down more slowly in the bloodstream allowing a regulated influx of energy with a greater likelihood of being processed and not stored as fat. Bran muffins, vegetables, and many types of fruit are part of the complex carbohydrate group.

Some weight loss diets mistakenly want all fat avoided. Eating only complex carbohydrates and no fat can cause insulin fluctuations. Insulin is the conduit between glucose (provided by carbohydrates) and your bloodstream. Without insulin, your body would be starved of the energy and fuel it needs. Any energy not used by the body gets stored as fat. So if you have insulin surges, your body will inevitably have leftover energy. This is why you want insulin levels to stay steady so that energy is processed as it is needed. By having some fat in your diet, it helps to achieve insulin balance.
